Kids wetsuits

It’s that time again, summer comes round and the kids want to get in the water. Its a hot day and the beach looks great, you send the the kids out to play in the waves only for them to turn around and come straight back to warm sand with a look in their eyes like ‘that an’t going to happen” . After a quick yell of “I didn’t drive for an hour through traffic to get to the beach so guys could not even go in”, you try the water for yourself. Shit that’s cold. Should’ve packed the wetsuits but they probably won’t fit anymore.

Reality check New Zealand is actually not a tropical Island, fact is we’re closer to Antarctica than the Tropics. A good wetsuit is a must in New Zealand, keeps people in the water for longer and everybody has a lot more fun. They keep the sun off and gives a person more float. Our youth category of wetsuits is one of the best in New Zealand so check it out and be ready for summer.

Info

Kids wetsuits, sizing is close to the age of the child, but check the available size charts if your unsure. 3/2mm stands for the thickness of the neoprene, a 3/2 would generally have 3mm neoprene on the chest, back and leg panels, while leaving 2mm neoprene on the arms and shoulders to create an easier swimming or surfing movement. Another huge factor in the warmth of a suit is the stitching areas, a suit that has GBS seams ( glued and blind stitched ) has had all the panels glued together and the stitch line has not gone all the way through the neoprene, this slows the water transfer coming through the seams giving the body more time to warm the suit. A flat locked stitched suit has had thousands of holes punched though the neoprene which allows water to come through, its a great strong, cheap and comfortable way of making a suit. The ultimate warmth comes from taping over the suit seams, this creates an almost water tight seal, but is also reflective in the price of these suits. When you’re looking for wetsuits for kids it’s hard to get a proper tight fit, without them growing out of the wetsuit in 2 weeks, but just remember the tighter it is around the chest and back panel the warmer they will be.
